Cutting drywall for a repair patch in Fort Myers and Lehigh Acres

Repairs that disappear instead of just getting covered

Most drywall repairs fail the same way. The hole gets filled and painted, and three weeks later a ghost of it shows every time light rakes across the wall. That happens when the patch is thicker than the wall around it, when tape was skipped, or when the texture was never matched. A repair is finished when you can run a hand over it and not tell where it was.

The wall around the damage matters too. Many homes in Lehigh Acres and Fort Myers are concrete block with drywall hung over furring strips, so a hole near an exterior wall behaves differently from one in a framed interior partition. We look at what is behind the board before deciding how to patch it.

We repair damage from doorknobs and moved furniture, TVs pulled off the wall, plumbing and electrical access cuts, settling cracks, and old patches that never held. If you are not sure whether something is a quick patch or a bigger problem, email us a photo and we will tell you which.

Sanding a drywall patch smooth in Lehigh Acres

Damage that needs more than a dab of spackle

Not every blemish is cosmetic. These are the ones worth a proper repair:

Cracks that keep coming back

A crack that returns after painting is moving. Filling it without fixing the tape or the framing behind it means it reappears, usually within a season. Cracks above doors and windows and along ceiling joints are the usual culprits.

Nail pops and screw pops

Small bumps or a line of tiny cracks down a wall mean fasteners backed out as framing dried and shifted. Resetting them and recovering the heads correctly beats sanding the bump flat only to watch it return.

Holes bigger than a fist

Anything beyond a small anchor hole needs backing or a cut-in patch taped on every edge. Stuffing a large hole with filler leaves a soft spot that cracks.

Soft, stained or bubbling spots

Brown rings, sagging and peeling paper point to moisture. The cause has to be found before anything is patched over it.

Patches that flash through paint

A rectangle you can see in raking light means the compound was not feathered wide enough or the patch was never primed. Re-feathering the edges and priming fixes what repainting alone never will.

Texture that does not match

A smooth patch on a knockdown wall stands out immediately. Matching splatter size, knock-down timing and sheen is half the job.

How we patch a wall so it stays patched

  1. Find out what caused itWe check what is behind the damage: studs, block, wiring, plumbing, insulation. A leak or a loose joint behind the wall gets fixed first or flagged for you.
  2. Cut back to solid boardCrumbled or soft edges come out. On larger holes we cut a clean shape to the nearest framing or add backing so the new piece has something to screw into.
  3. Fit a flush patchA piece of matching thickness, such as 1/2 inch on most walls, goes in flush and fastened, with tight seams so the compound never has to bridge a gap.
  4. Tape and build in thin coatsTape over the seams, then thin coats of joint compound, each dried before the next and feathered wide beyond the damage. Thin coats sand clean; thick ones crack.
  5. Sand, prime and match textureWe sand without scuffing the surrounding paper, prime the patch so it does not flash, and match the existing texture: knockdown, orange peel or smooth.
  6. Hand it off paint-readyThe repair is ready for paint. If you want us to coordinate the repaint, say so up front and we will plan it into the job.

What decides the price of a drywall repair

We do not publish flat prices, because two holes of the same size can be very different jobs. These are the factors that move a quote:

Size and number of repairs

One hole behind a door is a short visit. A dozen scattered repairs, or one repair that spans a whole wall, changes the labor and the number of coats.

What is behind the wall

Block wall, framed wall or ceiling? Wiring, ductwork or plumbing in the way? Tight access adds time.

Texture type

Smooth is the simplest. Knockdown and orange peel need spraying and timing to blend; heavy custom textures take the most skill.

Walls versus ceilings

Overhead work is slower and needs staging, so a ceiling repair typically takes more time than the same size wall repair.

Repair only, or repaint too

Repair, repair plus prime, and repair plus repaint are three different scopes. Tell us which one you want.

The underlying cause

If a leak or a structural problem caused the damage, the real fix is bigger than the patch.

Why homeowners call us for repairs

Drywall repair rewards patience and punishes shortcuts. It is the same craft we use on full hangs and finishes. Drywall is our core trade, so a small repair gets the same attention to tape, coats and sanding as a brand-new room.

You talk to the people doing the work, in English or Spanish. We would rather tell you honestly that a crack needs a framing fix than patch it and watch it come back.

  • Drywall is our trade, not a side service.
  • Texture matching on knockdown, orange peel and smooth walls.
  • English and Spanish (se habla español).
  • Based in Lehigh Acres, with Fort Myers in regular reach.

Questions people ask us

Can you match my existing wall texture?

Yes for the finishes common in Southwest Florida homes: knockdown, orange peel, skip trowel and smooth. When a texture is unusual we test it on a scrap piece first. A convincing match also depends on paint sheen and age, so we usually recommend repainting the whole wall section instead of only the patch.

Why did my patch crack after it was painted?

Joint compound shrinks as it dries, so a hole filled in one thick pass will crack or sink. Other common causes are a patch with no tape on its seams, or a hole that had no backing behind it and flexed every time the wall was touched. A lasting repair is built in thin coats over tape, with something solid behind the patch.

How long before I can paint a drywall patch?

Every coat of compound has to dry before it is sanded and recoated, and Florida humidity stretches that out. A small patch is normally several short visits rather than one. Setting-type compound hardens chemically and shortens the wait on deeper fills, so tell us your timeline and we will plan around it.

Can you repair a drywall ceiling, or only walls?

Ceilings are part of the job. Overhead repairs need staging and more patience, and sagging or stained ceiling board is often a sign of a leak above it. If you see a brown ring or the board is bowing, read our page on water-damaged drywall repair first.

I only have a small hole from a doorknob. Is it worth calling?

Small holes are the quickest repairs we do, and a proper small patch is worth getting right because it is the one you walk past every day. Send us a description or a photo and we will tell you what it involves before you commit to anything.

Do you repair drywall in Lehigh Acres and Fort Myers?

Yes. We are based in Lehigh Acres and work throughout Fort Myers as well. Repairs in older Fort Myers houses can mean plaster or thicker board, while newer Lehigh Acres homes are mostly block construction with drywall on furring, and we plan the patch around whichever we find.
